Test to see if your antivirus software is working.

Surprisingly a lot of folks antivirus is not working. And for some, not realizing they don't have any antivirus installed. Since most people do not have a library of viruses ready to test whether their antivirus software is working, and it is debatable whether people should do that anyway, you can use a test created by EICAR (the European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research).

Test your anti-virus software.

First, open Notepad. Then copy and paste into it the text on the line below. (It should all be on one line.)

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

Then select File > Save As > then save the file as eicar.com.
